In this series,Dawn Petticrew uses major symbols associated with war and remembrance, juxtaposing objects of femininity and identity.
Influenced by early 20th century war time, Petticrew draws attention to dichotomies and similarities to objects used by the soldiers away at war and the women at home. Through women's handicraft these objects crossed over in each others lives. Women often worked in munitions factories while sending scented items over seas to their loved ones, hoping for their safe return.
Using a myriad of surface treatments and recognizable forms, Petticrew recognizes the impact that perpetual warfare has made on the world.
